The objectives of this workshop are to facilitate participants' understanding of the requirements for preparing and submitting manuscripts for publication consideration to MASCC's journal, Supportive Care in Cancer.  The presenters will describe key issues and lessons learned from three perspectives: editor, author, and peer-reviewer.  The objectives of the workshop include:   understanding the journal's requirements, submission process and positioning your paper properly, preparing the manuscript, elements of successful writing, reviewer considerations, and responding effectively to decisions and recommendations. This workshop will be particularly useful for people who are less familiar with the journal, Supportive Care in Cancer, and/or who have limited experience with writing articles for peer-reviewed journals.

The 2019 MASCC/ISOO Annual Meeting will feature a New Members Networking Breakfast. This facilitated networking session is specifically for new MASCC members, those who joined us at last year’s meeting in Vienna or later. MASCC Board members and other MASCC leaders will also be on hand at the BreakfastThe event is designed to provide an informal setting in which new members can meet internationally known experts in supportive care and begin to build linkages across different interest groups and generations. Since networking does not come naturally to everyone, the session will be facilitated by two longstanding MASCC membersAnna Boltong, PhD, and Penelope Schofield, PhD, in a format designed to put new members at ease and promote the forming of new connections.

Four workshops will be offered at the MASCC/ISOO 2019 Annual Meeting in San Francisco. Unlike recent years, these workshops will take place at different times and are scheduled throughout the scientific program, rather than all on one morning. Also, these workshops will not require a separate fee in addition to Meeting registration. All registered attendees are welcome to attend any or all workshops.

ISNCC/MASCC joint session on "Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) working" 

This session will review the evidence for MDT working (Ms Jo Thompson, UK), how to deal with conflicts within MDTs (Professor Penny Schofield, Australia), and how to engage patients and carers in MDT decision making (Professor Patsy Yates, Australia)

Parallel session and workshop on "Complications of immunotherapy”  

Take part in the most comprehensive sessions on immune-related adverse events. A range of topics will be covered, including the mechanisms underlying toxicities. In addition, for the first time, we will have sessions on emergency management of immune related adverse events. These sessions are key for any healthcare provider involved in the clinical and research use of immunotherapies.

MASCC/SIOG joint session on "Managing the oldest and frailest oncology patients" 

The session will include lectures on geriatric assessment in day to day practice (Allison Loucks, Canada), optimizing quality of life (Prof William Dale, USA) and geriatric oncology in low and middle income (Dr Enrique Soto-Perez-de-Celis, Mexico)
